What connects

When an envelope is completed with an electronic signature, the executed agreement can flow into PaperlessZen, where intake files it against the right person, contract, or record and pulls its obligations into tracked dates. The signing stays in DocuSign; the signed document becomes a governed record in PaperlessZen.

What arrives when an envelope completes

Two things travel across once an envelope reaches completed status: the executed PDF itself, and the certificate of completion that DocuSign generates alongside it, carrying the signer audit record of who signed, when, and from where. If your envelope template sets envelope custom fields, those values come across as well, which is often the detail that tells PaperlessZen which contract, vendor, or party the document belongs to before a person looks at it. Nothing before completion crosses over. A voided, declined, or still-in-progress envelope stays in DocuSign; only the finished, signed record makes the trip.

Where documents show up

On the record the agreement concerns, filed and full-text searchable, with the approval history attached. The countersigned copy is not just in an inbox; it is in the archive, linked to the vendor or counterparty and ready when someone needs it. The certificate of completion travels with it, so the signer audit record is attached to the same document rather than left behind in a separate DocuSign export nobody remembers to keep.

A worked example: countersigned to tracked in one step

A vendor services agreement goes out for signature, both sides sign, and the envelope moves to completed. The certificate of completion generates automatically, and the executed PDF, certificate attached, flows into PaperlessZen. Intake reads the agreement, matches it to the vendor’s existing record by the value carried in an envelope custom field, and pulls the renewal notice date out of the text. Nobody downloaded the signed copy from a DocuSign notification email and dropped it in a folder; by the time anyone looks for it, the countersigned agreement is already filed, searchable, and has a tracked date sitting against it.

PaperlessZen is in early beta. The DocuSign flow is available to early customers on request, and today it works from the completed envelope forward: we do not send for signature and we do not manage the signing workflow inside an in-progress envelope.
